Selvage - Brand Design

I built the brand identity for Selvage, a sustainable clothing mending service dedicated to giving new life to well-loved garments. From concept to execution, I developed every aspect of the brand — designing custom patterns, logos, and a full corporate communication package. To bring the brand to life across multiple platforms, I also designed a website, a print advertisement, and a branded mending kit, ensuring a cohesive visual language throughout.

Behind Selvage

“Selvage” means an edge produced on woven fabric during manufacture that prevents it from unravelling. I thought this was a clever play on the word “Salvage”, the act of saving goods from damage or destruction, because the main goal is to extend the life of clothing.

How Might We:

Provide ways for students to practice sustainable fashion while on a budget?

  • 100 billion items of clothing are produced each year

  • The average person only wears 20% of their clothes 80% of the time

  • The target audience for fast fashion retailers is largely
    consumers aged 18 to 24

  • We discard 92 million tons of textile waste that the industry generates annually

  • More than $500 billion are lost from lack of recycling
    and clothing underutilization

The Solution

A range of customizable and affordable mending kits that aim to lessen clothing waste by extending the life of a piece.

Selvage was started by a group of college students who wanted to share their mending knowledge with others, and promote sustainability in the fashion industry. Thus, Selvage was born, with the mission to educate and empower individuals to fix their clothing instead of throwing it away, reducing clothing waste.
